11:41AM - Birthday

Ok, my birthday is coming up on wednesday, but I'm going to celebrate with a dinner on friday.

The plan is currently at the Foundation for veggie nachos/beer and other food at 7:00. Everyone who reads this thing is invited, and I'll try and get ahold of people individually in the next day or two.

11:11AM - Roommate Opening

My roommate Kristina is moving back to toronto on Dec 15th, which is kind of sad, it is fun having her here even if we see each other kind of rarely. But that means that I don't have anyone to live here from the 15th on, and I really need to find someone. The place is nice, faux hardwood and tiled, a little small but cozy. If anyone knows someone who is looking for a place to live it would be great if you can pass on my name to them, I'll post some flickr photos under a cut.

1:56PM - nano post

Nanowrimo (http://www.nanowrimo.org) starts in three days, and its going to be crazy trying to write this and do school papers at the same time (though thats how so many other people do it, so I'm going to try). I would heartily recommend it to anyone who's interested, and it would be fun having someone else I know doing it.

I usually try and write something semi-serious for these things, it's going to come off cheesy, but I don't want to write something thats a cheesy comedy. To use some bad advertising lingo, I'm going to try and write something like Dogville meets Pi. I'm looking forward to november :)

New Westminster Library Sale is happening on the 27-29th
http://www.nwpl.new-westminster.bc.ca/

Is anyone else interested in going on the 27th? From what I've heard this sale is really great, organized in sections and alphabetically.
The library itself is probably about 8 blocks from the skytrain station...let me know.

10:09PM

stumbled across this:
http://www.20by20room.com/

I like the idea of the traits being specific to what the themes of the game are. I think that the division of knowledge / intelligence stats in RPGs that I played growing up had a lasting effect on me, though dexterity/agility never really caught ahold. I kind of like reading rule books for these DnD type games, though I haven't managed to actually play a single game. I've tried once or twice but I think with these specific games its imagining the possible worlds that I like. I have some problems with high fantasy, but I used to read all the white-wolf modern day werewolf and vampire stuff and some rifts. I wonder whats going on now adays...

12:53AM

It feels a little wierd to post photos, things I've watched, descriptions of what I've gotten...like this:

(stumbled upon the library sale today when I went to return a book + donations from friends)

Like this internet persona is built on a collection of objects, links, movies, music...etc

The last few films I've seen at the festival were:
Keane - Blah crappy movie!!
Wild Side - Depressing movie, but good
Pavee Lackeen - Docu-Drama about irish gypsies...it was ok
A Social Genocide - Pretty good, the economic focus added some depth to talking about the rhetoric
The Hamster Cage - Canadian, kind of cheesy but funny none the less
Inherited Disorder - Glad I saw some shorts

Party with free drinks soon (for film festival wrap up).

Two more movies:
Netto - was fucking hilarious, very understated humor, with characters who can't communicate at all (reminds me of happiness, or welcome to the dollhouse but much lighter).

The Devil's Miner - Didn't care too much for it, the split between the worlds of inside and outside the mountain is kind of interesting

12:36AM

I just saw Dear Wendy, and I have to say it's one of my favoirte films so far. It's a romance with guns on a level thats totally different from american representations of gun-love. The characters have a very personal relationship with their weapons, for the personallities they have and their histories and seemingly as an antithesis to their deadly potential. I can't give away anything else but the film disturbed me, which is kind of rare!

What I've seen so far at the festival:

Dog Nail Clipper - Not so good
Skritek - Good/Funny
Estamira - It was ok
Souls of Naples - Bad, walked out
Monte Grande: What is Life? - Not as good as I hoped, Varela had a few good lines though
The Porcelain Doll - Wierd, all about death, I didn't like it
Manderlay - Good, but the opening lines to were stilted and threw me off
Why We Fight - Better than Farenheit 9/11, but in the same vein
The Piano Tuner of Earth quakes - Strange, artsy, and dreamlike but kind of bad
Lie with Me - Good for a love story
Angry Monk: Reflections on Tibet - Good, had a bit of a problematic stance on modernization though
Citizen Dog - Good, funny and stylish
Dear Wendy - Great! Harsh and surreal!
----------------------
Souvenir of Canada - Really pretty good, I feel embarressed that I haven't read any Douglas Coupland books though
Wake up, Arezoo! - Emotional, it's strange trying to figure out what is real and what isn't
Slavoj Zizek: The reality of the virtual - A lecture, smart and funny

It looks like I'm in for the film festival afterall, reserve waiting list paid off! Schedule tomorrow I think, exciting!

I like my artificial life screensaver, I'm going to put 'nature' shots from it up on flickr.

There is also a bunch of mp3s that I'm listening too zipped up and put on my friends server Here Though it'll have to come down fairly soon, in case of bandwidth issues.

12:33PM - Flotsam

It's been roughly two weeks since school started, what a depressing two weeks! Everyone I'm taking classes with is 18 and straight from highschool, living in dorms or frats on campus. I spend a bit of time with Carmen, and see some of the people that I worked with at the old starbucks; also now that I'm a part of CiTR I have to find out when someone is in the office to drop by and pick up discorder CD's (and try and get into other parts of it).

In other news I'm trying to work on a simple papercraft project: a tiny bookshelf with a bunch of the philosophy/literature I've read on it, to poke a bit of fun at myself. Also finally making the effort to learn knitting; someone showed me the basics a few days ago.

1:38PM - Games...

Time to get back into game idea a day thing (which was a brain storming thing while I was in GD school). For now though it'll be with board games. Behind LJ-cuts. And I do plan on making an actual update about my life sooner or later.
